SUPER BOY ~

My daughter has so many dress up clothes. And she changes from a fairy to a princess to Olivia to Fancy Nancy 50 times a day! My son sees her and just wants nothing more than to join in. The hubs comes home from work and is not to fond of me letting him run around in a tutu! So i finally broke down and made him a super cape and mask. :o) I started out with some {very Clark Kent} blue and red material. I have seen many capes made on etsy and thought i could do that. So i laid my son on my brown paper that i use to make patterns with and traced around him how i wanted the cape to flow and the length. Cut it out and then cut the material. I sewed everything together and then started on the "Superman" logo. Well that didn't go to well. In fact i scratched that whole idea. Not that he would care cause he usually has a floral blanket tied around his neck....but i wanted it to look like a super cape. Oh well in the end i think it still looks cute. Maybe one day i will try again on the "S" but as for now he loves it. And so does daddy!! :)

Kitchen Bits ~

We haven't finished the kitchen as of yet. I really wish it was done but it isn't. We are just taking it one day at a time and making sure to enjoy life along the way. But i wanted to show you some of what we have completed. First is the floor. :o) I love our new floor in the kitchen. I can't tell you how much i DON'T miss the wood floor. I love the color and pattern we chose. We used a 16 inch large tile and a 6 inch smaller tile that was a shade darker.

And every once in a while you will see a patterned tile like this. There are 4 different patterns sprinkled around. We didn't do this for every smaller tile....thought about it but it looked to busy.

Here is a pic of the sink cabinet. We bumped it out and added legs. LOVE! Makes it look more like a piece of furniture. Sorry...can you see the dishes in the sink. Yeah, i'm to lazy i mean busy to wash them before a picture. HA! Anyway...the hubs painted the legs and i glazed them to match the cabinets.

Here is a big splurge we made. The sink faucet. I wanted an all in one sprayer and well....we paid for it. But i wanted something nice and this one got the best reviews.

Here is a sneak peek of our granite. It looks so good with the color of cabinets we have. It is black with some gold and green.

We have 2 glass door cabinets on each side of the sink window. And it forces me to keep things neat and tidy. But it really looks better i think....more open.

And here is our latest project. The window seat. I'll be glad when it is done....i'm going to be making the seat cushion. A little nervous about that.

I picked out our dining room chandelier. When i picked it out it had a price tag of $149.99. But when the hubby finally went to purchase it it was on a bigger sale. He came home and said i have a surprise for you. I got you the chandelier you wanted. Can you guess how much i paid for it??? I was thinking it went off sale. But it actually went down to $80 bucks! Now THAT made me hap, hap, HAPPY!! :o) I also wanted a medallion for it too. I had the hubs paint it the same color of the cabinets since the ceiling was white and i wanted it to stand out. After he painted it i glazed it too.

Here is the medallion in the beginning of the glazing process. For the record....this took several hours. This was not a easy glazing job. I just couldn't get it to look right. But in the end....i love it and i'm so glad i spent the time to do it.

Now for more painting and glazing. HA! I found this buffet on Craigslist. I have been wanting a buffet for a long time and i wanted one that i could paint and make it my own. I sanded this puppy in 100 degree heat...NOT fun! I {and when i say i ...i mean the hubs. He has a spray gun.} painted it a soft blue....actually it looks kinda silver. Then i took my glaze that i have been using and brushed it over all the crevasses.

The detailed scrolly thing was added. I thought it was kinda Plain Jane so i picked these up at Lowes for $10 for both.

I also picked up some BLING BLING! Don'tcha just love the glass knobs??

The glazing really makes this piece. It makes all the detail stand out.

Here is the only before picture i have.

Kinda ruff huh?? Look at it and go back up and look at the finished piece. Just Lovely!!

And that is it for this LONG post.

Happy Wednesday!!

Southern Savers ~

Wow! Where has the past week and a half gone??!! We have been keeping busy with this and that....and not enough time to blog about it. I will have to get a few pictures in this week on updates of the house and sewing projects. But today i want to share with you something i stumbled upon this week while looking for good deals on the Internet. Have you seen this website? Southern Savers is a place where finding steals and deals is simple and rewarding!! It has tons of info on the best deals of the week from different stores. I was in heaven looking around and seeing all the good deals in local stores. I try to be a good "thrifty" shopper and find it such a thrill to find good deals. :o) I have been watching that show about couponing lately and wish i could be that good. Have you seen it??? But that takes TONS of time that well.....i don't have. But i'm trying to get the best deals that i can with the time i have. And Southern Savers is a good place to start. Do you have a place you go to on the web that saves you money??

What a HOOT ~

Nothing says fall like owls right? I had a boutique catalog last fall that had the cutest little girls dresses in it. But my favorite dress was made out of owl fabric. As soon as i saw that dress i went out and got some owl material for my little darling. Well with everything going on last year i never got around to making it for her. And everytime i see that fabric i get alittle sad cause i didn't use it. This year she is going to get to sport a pretty dress made out of it. :o)

The fabric was so cute...but alittle dark so i added some lighter fabric to it. Just alittle bit though. I think it turned out cute. I had intended this to be a peasant dress but she has so many that i thought i would do something alittle different. I love these Knot dresses. They look cute with a white peter pan collar top underneath or turtle neck.

See my ruffle....hehe!

Close up of the little HOOTS!

Still working on a few things....so stay tuned. Next up something SUPER...........

Argyle ~

I love an argyle print. To me it is a preppy print....don't cha think? I have some argyle fabric in my stash but i found some new argyle at Hobby Lobby a few weeks back. It's colors are alittle more "fall friendly" than what i already have. I got 1 yrd and had a coupon....$3 dolla....HOLLA! :o) I was afraid that only one of my kiddos would get something out of this but........

TA-DA!! I was able to get 2 things made! This was my first attempt at making pants for little man. And i didn't have a pattern. So i got in his closet and pulled out a pair of pants and made my own pattern. Skirts are pretty easy so i didn't use a pattern for it either. I was able to pump these out in an hour. The hour i usually use to drink coffee and watch alittle GH. HA! I figured i would rather make something during that hour than just sit and waste it. I do plan on pairing these up with a cute orange top and a sweet monogram. :o) They don't need much else. Especially the pants....the hubs says they are alittle LOUD! HA! But for the record...they do look really cute on.

Well i have a ton of things to do today but i'm gonna try and squeeze in a sewing session....so be sure to check back in tomorrow.

Sewing for Fall ~

Ok...i stepped into Hobby Lobby earlier this week only to find....CHRISTMAS stuff everywhere! WHAT??? I thought i was thinking way ahead in trying to get stuff together to make my kiddos outfits for this fall. Yep, you heard right. While organizing the bonus room the other day and after finding all my beautiful fabric i decided to make the majority of my kids fall and winter clothes this year. Of course i will still hit up the fall consignment sales but i really want to make the things for them that i bought the fabric for in the first place. If i start now i should be ahead of the game and able to make the special holiday outfits also. Anytime i buy fabric i try to buy atleast one coordinating fabric too. And now that i have 2 to sew for i try to also make the styles match. Can't help myself....i love my kiddos to match. So monday i pulled out my first 3 coordinating fabrics and started on a new outfit for my Little Miss! I decided on an A-line top and the fabric is a soft yellow with red barns and pigs and cows and horses. The fabric i used for the lining is a soft pink with a swirl design. And as for the pants.....pink corduroy ruffle pants. :o) Ok...side story on the ruffle pants. When i make ruffle pants the thing i hate the most is taking the time to pull the string and manually making the ruffle. I absolutely hate that process. I usually get about half done and the string breaks and i have to start all over. As i was about to choose the stitch i usually use for ruffles i looked over and decided to use a different stitch....it looked like it might work better. So i touch the button and put the fabric under the foot and started sewing my line. As i started i noticed that the fabric was bunching up in the back. GREAT! I mean that in a bad way. I thought my machine was "eating" my fabric. But as i looked i noticed that no....my machine was not hungry....it was making the ruffle for me. All this time my machine can do this and i didn't even know. MY SEWING LIFE JUST GOT EASIER!! Just another reason i heart my sewing machine. So don't be surprised if you start seeing more ruffles around here.....hahaha!! Anyway...so here it is.....

I just love it. It looks sooooo cute on her. I'm pretty proud of it. I think it is the best out of all the things i have made her. I still need to add bows to the top over the buttons and of course.....it needs to be MONOGRAMMED. :o)
Next up...something for my little man child. I'm thinking argyle.

Rainy Days and Some Sewing ~

It's either extreme heat or rain these days. We are trying to make best of the heat by hanging out by the pool. As for making best of the rain....well that means cleaning house for me and movies and inside "Tea Parties" for the kids. Earlier this week we were plagued with the stomach virus. I do believe EVERY towel, washrag, sheet and blanket in this house was in the laundry room either being washed or REwashed yesterday. I was doing laundry and the kids were doing their best to "help" out and i was also trying to organize and clean the Bonus room. I'm still trying to clean that room up and get it ready for Homeschooling {preschool} this fall. As i was working i kept seeing all the pretty fabric and sewing machines sitting there and they were SCREAMING at me to use them. I also had a little girl asking me to make her a dress. :o) And i sure did want to! I did pull out all the fabric i wanted to use for making fall and winter clothes for them and put it to the side. I have so much fabric and when i look at it the ol'wheels start turning and i have plans for each and every piece i have but finding the time these days....not so much. My son is in need of a bigger blanket so that is what i decided to make. I had everything i needed. The material is so soft... it's a brushed cotton and perfect for a blanket. It was an easy project. Nothing fancy. I used an airplane fabric for the front and a blue and white gingham for the back. Then i used red fabric for the binding on the sides. I quilted it together with just large squares {stitched by machine}.

The hubs loves it. He likes that the planes are not cartoon like.

This project took me all of maybe an hour. And when little man woke up from his nap i gave it to him. He immediately rolled up in it and laid down on the floor. Big sis was not to happy that i made him something and not her. So i will have to make her a blanket soon. I actually have something in the works now. But that post is for another day.

While i was sewing i also decided to make a couple of pillows for my couch. Why? Well 1.) our couch NEEDS a few pillows. And 2.) i have several bags of stuffing that i can't find a spot for and so this is the quickest way to put it to good use. HA!

The size of these pillows are perfect. Not bad for a piece of remnant fabric that cost me $2 !

Happy Weekending!!

Cupcakes, Cupcakes...CUPCAKES ~

I have a love for cupcakes. They are my weakness. We have a local cupcake shop here where i live that is AWESOME! They are alittle pricey so i don't get one very often but my daughter loves to go for a sweet surprise. :o) And when i found THIS blog fo-evaaa ago i was in love. I think i gain a pound everytime i just look at this website. HA! Anyway...if you are a fellow cupcake lover like me go check out this sweet little blog. It will get your wheels turning to try a new cupcake recipe. :)
