A little bit of the and a little bit of that~

Hi-DE-HO!

It is friday and i'm all smiles! :-D

Except when i go to my blog...photobucket has hijacked it! I seem to have this pesky image from photobucket floating around and it is driving me crazy! I have NEVER used photobucket and use my own pictures so why is it there? Can you see it? Trying to get that fixed before i go bonkers!

This week has been alot of trying to get back on schedule after a trip. Laundry....blah, blah, blah! Hubby went back to the doctor about his broke finger he got while on our little trip. It is doing alot better. Swelling is going down and looks to be healing right. Yesterday i had a good friend stop by to hang out for a while. My kids adore her. I had a few errands to run and she came with me. She needed a new pair of shoes so we headed over to the MALL! Folks i used LOVE going to the mall and looking from store to store for hours. BUT now that i'm a mommy...it can be torture sometimes. Needless to say i may step foot in a mall 5 times a year now. :-O I do much better shopping online these days. Plus the price tags make my heart race. HAHA! For instance...i found a most beautiful dress for my little girl and on SALE it was still $80!! WHAAAAT! Do you know how many beautiful dresses i can find my little darling at a consignment sale for $80?? We kept looking. We ended up in Belk where i found several things on sale! Yippee!! I found little miss a few things for this fall {yep i said this fall...can you believe that the fall line is already out} and also some things for next summer. And you know i have to show you what i found. :)

This is the only thing i could find for little man. :( I usually find more for him at Gymboree but they are not having much of a sale right now. I wish i could find the hubby a matching tee shirt..hehe!

LOVE this long top for fall. Gonna pair it up with some green leggings! :o)

Also found these cute-e-pie pants for her.

Super cA-ute huh?? :) I had a $20 in my pocket and got all that with like .30cents left. Rock ON!

Anyway...as i was looking at all the fall clothes i realized that it is almost August! I can't believe it! Summer is slipping away. And with that...my son will very soon be 1!! The BIG ONE! How??? Time is going by way to fast! I will be getting his birthday bash together in the next few weeks.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I Fought the Slaw and the Slaw Won~

The hubmeister had a potluck lunch at work yesterday and he signed me up to make some Cole Slaw. So i thought i would share my recipe with you.
Slaw mix:
2 bags of pre-mixed cabbage slaw with carrots (wal-mart in the packaged salad section)
3 ribs of celery
1 yellow onion
1 bell pepper
2 cups of cane sugar
Shred, Chop, or dice all and mix with the sugar. Set Cabbage mixture aside.
Wet Mix:
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. kosher salt
Bring all to a boil and pour over cabbage mixture and chill overnight.

It turned out so yummy!! I love it because it isn't to strong.

Warning: this recipe makes tons of slaw! Great for big get togethers!! :)

THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS~

We took a family vacation to the Smoky Mountains. Boy was it HOT!! It was the 2nd time in the mountains for my daughter and she had a blast. I do believe her favorite was swimming/floating in the creek. And it was little boys first time...and well he doesn't like anything to do with the great outdoors so it was torture for him. He did manage to catch some Z's while the hubs packed him on his back during several hikes. Hubby managed to get in a little bit of fishing. We always drive over to Cherokee so the kids can see the Indians. This year we got to watch them do a few dances. That was pretty neat-O! While we were there the kid-a-roos got a few souvenirs. Little girl picked out this sweet little Indian doll.

We are still trying to think of a good Indian name for her. I want to call her "Chasing Elk". Since we saw tons of Elk in the Cataloochee area. She also got that Indian music maker.
Baby boy got a black bear {like the one we saw} and a coon skin hat made by the cherokee indians {not china}.

Here is one of the Elk we saw. Her tag was orange so that means that she was born in the park. She had a 6 week old baby tagging along somewhere.

We saw elk everywhere we went in Cataloochee. If you have never seen an elk and want to...Cataloochee is where you need to go!

Here is a bat we found in one of the old houses at Cataloochee.

Can you believe the mileage?? I wonder just how many people actually hike this?

RECAP~

We hiked most days. Enjoyed the mountain views. Saw some strange people. Floated in the creeks. Hubby broke his finger. Got to see a bear in the wild! Saw Cherokee Indians dance. Got a tee shirt and came home. :)

Baby H.

I have a great friend that is expecting her first baby. They are choosing to have a delivery surprise! :-D I just don't know if i could do that??!! BUT get this...she used my digital recorder at her ultrasound and i actually have the results in my hands!!! WHAAAAT!! That's right she gave ME the go ahead and i can know the sex of the baby. How cool is that!!?? Actually i'm terrified i'm going to give it away. But so far so good.

She asked me to take a few pictures for her. And i was so excited to do these for her. She wanted some like that took of myself when i was expecting my first. And here are a few....

Isn't she cute. :)
I can't wait to meet you baby H.
Well i have decided to take a bloggy break. This week has been really busy and next week is going to be too. My little man is cutting 4 teeth all at once and he is in need of his mommy. So next week i won't have any posts. I will try to be back the following week with a few things. Until then....

The Old Man is Snoring ~

It is a glorious rainy day here in the south. The kids and i got up this morning and little girl started right in about going out to swim. I put her "babinsuit" on and got little man in some shorts. Just as we were going to walk outside i noticed the sun wasn't shining anymore. BUT we went out anyway. It started sprinkling but no thunder or lightning so we stayed out and played in the rain. SHE LOVED IT! My sweet little girl is a lover of all things outdoors. My little man...not so much. :( I hope he grows out of it.

We came in when it started to thunder. We got in the tub to shower off and then put our Jammies on...snuggled up on the couch and watched little girls new favorite movie. UP! Have you seen it? It is actually a pretty good movie. Thank goodness for Netflix!!

Yesterday i got a few things made for a sweet baby girl on the way. :)

I made a CA-ute giraffe taggie. Perfectly soft and sweet. Little ones love chewing and playing with the little ribbon "taggies". I made a matching baby quilt with the pink and white polkadot fabric....and white minky dot {oh, the softest fabric in the world}!

Here is a closer look at the giraffe. Isn't he cute!! :)

Have a great Tuesday!!!

Cuban Sandwich & Fried Plantains~

This weekend i got a huge hankering for a good'ol Cuban Sandwich! Have you ever had one? OH MY...so yummy! I used to live in an area that had a Cuban meat market. I was there atleast once a week for a cuban the works and a order of fried plantains {Plátanos}. If we ever had company....this is what we had for dinner. :)

Here is how i make mine.

Sourdough long sub rolls {can't find Cuban bread around these parts}
Pound of Turkey {thinly sliced}
Pound of Roast beef {thinly sliced}
Brown deli mustard
Pickle stacker's
Swiss Cheese
2 pans (make sure one can fit inside the other}

~Cut your sub roll in half. Put one layer of turkey and then one layer of roast beef. Then your swiss cheese. Another layer of turkey. Then 1 stackers pickle. Thinly spread the mustard on the top bun. Now place your Cuban in a pan. Turn your stove on medium. Take the other pan and press the cuban till it is pretty flat. Let it heat for a min or so. Then flip and press again. Don't let the bread burn. I like my cubans pressed and slightly crunchy.

Next cooking your plantains.

~Slice 2 whole plantains into half inch rounds. Make sure your plantains are more browny yellow. Green plantains are not as sweet. Start heating up your vegetable oil. Lay your cut plantains in slowly. Let them cook till they are kinda brown on one side and them flip over and let the other side brown. Then take out.

Serve up hot off the stove! :)

If you make these please let me know how you like them. :)

and his name is...RED~

Is it FRIDAY already?? I know you can't see me but i'm dancing in my chair right now! hehe!! The hubmiester always gets a chuckle out of me being so happy that it is friday. HE says that everyday is friday for me {since i'm a SAHM}. I say but darlin...friday means family time to me. :)

I have a few things that i'm working on right now i found a fabric that i have TONS of and well i have a few ideas for it! :P Super cute stuff!

Today i want to show you something that i just got the hubby to help finish up for me. I'm sorry i don't have a before photo. I did have one but we had a little virus pop up on my computer not to long ago and so the before pic is long gone. BUT i do have an after picture. :)
We were givin this cute {but in need of a little help} rocking horse. IT is an antique...and i loved it as soon as i saw it. The paint was very worn and a funny shade of red. I immediately wanted to paint it brown so that it would look oh so cute in my daughters room. So the hubby took it apart for me to sand down and repaint. I had purchased a chocolate brown paint and was going to put a pink rope on it. So i sanded...and when i went to apply the paint....the brown didn't speak to me. At this point i found out i was pregnant again with my son. AND then we started a house hunt. Project officially abandoned! So there he laid for months on end this UGLY shade of brown and dismembered. A few weeks ago as i was picking out a few cans of spray paint and i saw this.....

It is called Cardinal Red. I knew right then what i was going to use this on. So i came home grabbed Mr. Rockin Horse and headed outside. With the first spray of red...i was in love. Perfect!! And what was even more perfect was that the ugly brown turned wonderful under the coat of red. I lightly sprayed the edges and some of the brown was showing through. I love it, I love it! Now i had to talk the hubby into putting him back together again. He went into the DREADED GARAGE OF ENDLESS PROJECTS...PROJECTS...projects....{can you hear the echo??} HA!! And came up with the horse in hand....the kids went wild. The smile on my little girls face was priceless! She was so very excited about this new toy. And it is a great new addition to our living room. :)

He still needs a tail and a rope to hold on to but i can do that later. :)

I'm off to enjoy this beautiful day the Lord has blessed us with. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

XO

Boo Boo Bag & Pee Pee Teepee~

I hear "Ouch Mommy I hurt" a lot these days. So i decided to make some Boo Boo Bags for her. They consist of the softest Flannel Fabric and inside is Organic white rice. Just pop them in the microwave for a few seconds and they are warm and toasty. Great for sore muscles or ear infections...the warmth on little ears that are in pain. I have heard mommies use these on Babies belly to aid in tummy discomfort for Colic. But always make sure they are not to hot....
OR keep them in the freezer. Either way they keep Boo Boos at bay. I just love the monkey fabric...it is great for girls or boys...!!!

I like to bundle up 2 or 3 for gifts. That way you can keep one in the freezer and one for heat.

Next up is one of my favorite for little boys! Pee Pee Teepees!!

Just keep these in your baby bag for on the go. They are great in keeping mommy dry while diapering! :)

I'm having so much fun with Baby week. I think i may extend it to next week too. :)

Burpee Bouquet & Diddy Bag~

I absolutely love to make these! Burpee Bouquets are so fun and make such a sweet gift.

Beautifully presented to look like a bouquet of flowers a "burpee bouquet" will steal everyone's heart. No parent can ever have enough of these elegant yet practical baby gifts! Burpee bouquets make the perfect shower gift~

This Bouquet is made from 6 burp cloths. I used 100% cotton fabric and soft organic terry cloth. I just love the fabrics....toile and sweet floral designs. I've labeled this Bouquet "Sweetly Southern". :)

Next up i made what i call a "Diaper Diddy". It holds several diapers and a wipes case. Perfect for grabbing out of your bag for a quick change. I used one of my favorite damask fabric prints for this in PINK & BROWN.

I wanted to also let you know that i make these to sell. If you are interested in anything you see me make please email me and i will get back to you as soon as possible. :)

Burpies....

One of my favorite things that i received when i was expecting was Personalized Burp Cloths. It is something EVERY mommy needs. I made a few today with some material that i had left over from making some for my little man. I love the dark blues and retro patterns cause everything else for baby boys is always a light baby blue. I know just the little boy whose name is going to adorn these. :) I used 100% cotton fabric and organic cloth diapers. The cloth diapers soak up TONS of spit up.
Next up ...something PINK!! :)

BABY WEEK~

Hello all my bloggy friends. :) I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! Did you go see fireworks or did you shoot some of your own? We took a quick trip home. Glad to be home though. Back at it with tons of laundry {story of my life}. ha!!

This week i thought i would do a whole week on gifts for BABY! I have several friends and family members that are expecting right now and there are also several pregnant ladies at church where i attend. So i have been making a list of what all i would like to make. I have TONS of great ideas but not enough time to do it all. So i will pick what i think each mother would like and get to work. Sewing for baby is "sew" much fun. :)

I got my list out this morning and when the kids go down for a nap i will get started. I don't have anything to show you at the moment but i will try to post what i have later in the day. Make sure to check back. :)

Dollar Daze~

It is thursday morning and i'm washing clothes and cleaning house for the 4TH of July weekend. It isn't raining so the kids and i are gonna spend the majority of the day outside. :) Love IT!

Do you secretly love the Dollar Store?? I DO! HEHE! I go every so often and pick up some random things. Like stickers and crayons and chalk for my girl. Sometimes i find pretty cool storage containers. I had to go the other day because i was in need of some gift bags and paper. And my haul was once again pretty random...glitter baton and princess bubbles, Popcorn containers, sea creatures that grown in water, and 2 very cool place mats for the kids. Pink with white polkadots and blue with white polkadots {or peepadots as my daughter calls them}. :) I thought they were to cute not to get a few of. I brought them home and you guessed it....monogrammed them! Now they are personalized and oh so cute!

I did their monogram in white. I like the white but if i make more i think i will do the monogram in a brighter contrasting color.

I'm off to start my holiday weekend. What are some of your big plans for this 4th of July holiday?

Make sure to check back next Tuesday. I have some CA-UTE things planned for next week!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!
