This weekend i got a huge hankering for a good'ol Cuban Sandwich! Have you ever had one? OH MY...so yummy! I used to live in an area that had a Cuban meat market. I was there atleast once a week for a cuban the works and a order of fried plantains {Plátanos}. If we ever had company....this is what we had for dinner. :)
Here is how i make mine.
Sourdough long sub rolls {can't find Cuban bread around these parts}
Pound of Turkey {thinly sliced}
Pound of Roast beef {thinly sliced}
Brown deli mustard
Pickle stacker's
Swiss Cheese
2 pans (make sure one can fit inside the other}
~Cut your sub roll in half. Put one layer of turkey and then one layer of roast beef. Then your swiss cheese. Another layer of turkey. Then 1 stackers pickle. Thinly spread the mustard on the top bun. Now place your Cuban in a pan. Turn your stove on medium. Take the other pan and press the cuban till it is pretty flat. Let it heat for a min or so. Then flip and press again. Don't let the bread burn. I like my cubans pressed and slightly crunchy.
Next cooking your plantains.
~Slice 2 whole plantains into half inch rounds. Make sure your plantains are more browny yellow. Green plantains are not as sweet. Start heating up your vegetable oil. Lay your cut plantains in slowly. Let them cook till they are kinda brown on one side and them flip over and let the other side brown. Then take out.
Serve up hot off the stove! :)

I love plantain chips! I haven't had any in years, though. We used to eat them at least one a week in Africa. I'll have to try this. Maybe Mark will like them? Hopefully, anyway!
